Statement of the MCDB Committee on Diversity and Professional Climate

To continue pushing boundaries through new and exciting research, the Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) department strives to create a diverse and welcoming community of scientists. It is a universal truth that every individual deserves equal respect and opportunity, but also, an increasing body of research demonstrates that teams with unique perspectives and backgrounds are better able to drive creative problem solving and innovation. Therefore, we actively work to further MCDB’s inclusivity to allow our colleagues to work efficiently in a comfortable environment for their personal happiness as well for the quality of our science.

Yale University values and abides by equal opportunity, stating explicitly that Yale “does not discriminate in admissions, educational programs, or employment against any individual on account of that individual’s sex, race, color, religion, age, disability, status as a veteran, or national or ethnic origin; nor does Yale discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.” Our department wholeheartedly agrees with these values, and MCDB’s Committee on Diversity and Professional Climate is dedicated to ensuring that we maintain and further diversity in the sciences. MCDB cultivates students of many levels to professional scientists, and we are committed to providing every mentee with the skills necessary to become a successful researcher.
