Genetics

Research in this fundamental area of biology investigates how information encoded in the coding and noncoding portions of the genome directs physiological processes at the molecular, cellular, and organismal level. Genetic approaches in a vast array of model organisms - ranging from invertebrates to plants to vertebrate animal models - investigate basic biological mechanisms as well as link genetic alterations to disease states, such as developmental conditions and cancer. Mentees are trained in fundamental genetic principles, state-of-the-art CRISPR-based technologies for genome engineering and screening, and advanced genomic analyses.
