First Year Students

Coursework

Specific courses are required for each track within the BBS.  In addition, each track requires a course on the Responsible Conduct of Research. 

         Description of core curriculum for common tracks of MCDB students:

Biochemistry, Biophysics, and Structural BiologyMacromolecular Structure and Biophysical Analysis, Biophysics, Methods and Logic in Molecular Biology, and Advanced Eukaryotic Molecular Biology.

Molecular Cell Biology, Genetics and DevelopmentMolecular Cell Biology, Basic Concepts of Genetics Analysis, and Biochemical and Biophysical Approaches in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

MicrobiologySeminal Papers on the Foundation of Modern Microbiology and Evasion of Host Defenses by Viruses, Bacteria and Eukaryotic Parasites, Molecular Biology of Animal Viruses, and Mechanisms of Microbial Pathogenesis.

NeurosciencePrinciples of Neuroscience, Neurobiology, Structural and Functional Organization of the Human Nervous System, and Bioethics in Neuroscience.

Retreats

Several departments including MCDB hold retreats in the fall in which all 1st year graduate students can attend.
