Cell Biology

Cell biology focuses on the cell as the basic unit of life, and concerns the study of cell structure and function. Cell biologists are interested in understanding the general principles underlying the generation of all cell types as well as the processes controlling the forms and functions of highly specialized cell types. In MCDB, cell biological research ranges from understanding how the flow of genetic information from the nucleus to the cytoplasm is controlled, to investigating how cell division is achieved, to understanding how the cytoskeleton regulates cell function, and finally, exploring how these processes impinge on each other and impact cell communication.
