Bahmanyar receives the 2022 WICB Junior Award for Excellence in Research.

Shirin Bahmanyar was awarded the American Society of Cell Biology’s Women In Cell Biology (WICB) Junior Award for Research Excellence. This award is presented to “a woman or non-binary person in an early stage of their career making exceptional scientific contributions to cell biology, developing a strong independent research program, and exhibiting the potential for continuing at a high level of scientific endeavor and leadership.” 

The Bahmanyar lab aims to understand mechanisms that control organelle biogenesis. They focus on the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), the largest organelle in cells that gives rise to the nuclear envelope. Her lab has made significant contributions to the understanding of ER structure and size control and is a leading expert on nuclear envelope lipids..
