The Chair’s Corner - April 2017

April 13, 2017

This month we launched a new undergraduate interdepartmental major in Neuroscience, jointly run by the Departments of MCDB and Psychology.  Neuroscience aims to understand how the brain produces behaviors, from understanding how neurons develop, how signals are transmitted, how neural circuits are formed, to how these biological processes result in reflexes, emotions, learning, memory, and other behaviors. The major is rigorous, with required courses in biology, psychology, statistics and quantitative approaches, but at the same time affords students the flexibility to tailor the major to their specific interests.  I’m excited that we can provide this opportunity to our Yale undergrads, and appreciate the efforts of many people in both MCDB and Psychology who worked hard to make this happen.
