Alyssa is a junior in Berkeley College from San Diego, California. She is interested in studying infectious diseases and is currently researching malaria vaccine candidates at the Yale School of Public Health. Outside of science, she is also a tour guide at the Yale University Art Gallery and plays on the Women’s Club Volleyball team. She is open to answering any questions about classes or school in general, so please reach out!

Lowrey, Harper

Originally from Fort Collins, Colorado, Harper is a super junior who loves everything outdoors! Since fall 2019, Harper has worked in the Gendron lab studying plant circadian clocks, and they would love to geek out with anyone about plants. Harper plans on pursuing a Ph.D. in some field of plant sciences, probably focusing on genetics, and they are happy to talk about all things research as well as the other ins and outs of the MCDB major.

Noemi (she/her) is a junior in Branford originally from Garland, TX majoring in MCDB and concentrating in Global Health Studies. Her interests lie at the intersection of public health and medicine, specifically as they relate to reproductive justice and health and educational equity. Noemi is currently working on malaria vaccine research at the School of Public Health, is an active advising fellow for Matriculate, and interprets for the HAVEN free clinic. Outside of academics, she loves music, dancing, and connecting with friends. Noemi is very excited to work with prospective and current MCDB students! Julia is a senior MCDB major currently working in the O’Donnell Lab studying microbiome-nervous system interactions in C. elegans. She is a member of the STARS II program and plans on pursuing a phd in biological sciences. Outside of classes and research she is a member of the Yale Fencing Team, a FOOT leader, and an avid knitter. She would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the MCDB major!

She is currently studying the mechanism behind transmembrane based proteolysis targeting chimeras in the DiMaio Lab at the medical school. Zerubabell is a premed senior in Pauli Murray College from Nashville, TN. He conducts research in the Crews lab in YSB where he studies targeted protein degradation using novel chemical approaches. Moreen is a junior in Pauli Murray, majoring in MCDB. She is from the Bay Area, California where she often loves to go surfing with her friends! On campus, she is involved with the HAVEN free clinic, Yale Figure Skating Club, and the Yale Women’s Leadership Initiative. She also works in an RNA research lab at the medical school where she studies the mechanisms behind viral infection and proliferation. In her free time, she loves to go on lunch/dinner dates with her friends or host a movie night! With the abundance of courses that MCDB majors can take, Moreen knows that it can be difficult to decide courses, while balancing school and extracurriculars like research, so she hopes to be of help for any future/current MCDB majors!

In her free time, Megan enjoys hiking to East Rock, attempting to solve crossword puzzles with her friends, and dancing on the Yale Jashan Bhangra team. Van Anh is a junior in Saybrook College from South Windsor, CT. She is a premed MCDB major who has done Inflammatory Bowel Disease research at the Yale School of Medicine. Van Anh is vice-president of the Yale Rotaract Club, a chapter relations liaison for the National Alzheimer’s Buddies organization, and a writer for the Yale Scientific Magazine. Van Anh is excited to help out any interested Saybrugians with the MCDB major!

Dominic is a pre-med senior from Andover, MA. He is currently investigating neurodegenerative diseases in the Hafler and Zhang labs in the Department of Neurology at the Yale School of Medicine. Outside of class, Dominic is a director for the Medical Debt and Insurance Counseling Department at the HAVEN Free Clinic and loves ice skating. Danny is a senior in MCDB and is pursuing a BS Intensive within the major. He currently works in the Escobar-Hoyos Lab at the Medical School, studying RNA splicing defects in pancreatic cancer, and has aspirations of receiving a PhD in Cancer Biology. Outside of the lab, he plays bassoon in DPops, Yale’s only student-run pops orchestra, working out, and cooking Korean food. Danny is excited to serve as a MCDB peer mentor within Silliman. Gillian is a senior in TD from Fort Collins, CO. She is a pre-med MCDB and anthro. double major who spends the majority of her time doing research on sperm for male contraceptive efforts at the med school, with the Women’s Health Research Center, or as a peer tutor. Outside of class and research, Gillian spends her time volunteering at Haven Free Clinic, reading, and drinking lots of coffee. (Check out Poppy’s in East Rock if you haven’t been — it’s the best!) She is excited to help anyone work through the MCDB major (or what it looks like to be pre-med or a double major) or with anything else. Please reach out for anything! :)

My name is Becca! I am a junior in TD college, and I am from Southern California.  Within the MCDB major, I am particularly interested in genetics (and I am also premed and can advise about such)!  I work in the Gendron Lab doing plant biology research, and I am also a part of the Women’s Cross Country and Track teams and can speak about balancing academics with athletics as well!  So excited to chat with mentees soon!

Awa Cisse, (she/her), is a double major in Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology, and French Studies. She is a transfer student and a member of the Eli Whitney Student Society, a program for non-traditional students. Her interest in microbial disease has drawn her to join Bei’s lab as a student researcher. Her project focuses on eradicating malaria. She is part of the STARS II (Science Technology and Research Scholars), a program that facilitates the integration of minorities into STEM fields. In her free time, Awa is fond of listening to suspenseful true crime and storytelling podcasts; her two favorite shows are respectively True Crime Junkie and Mortified.
