Congratulations to the Yan Lab for their recent publication in PNAS entitled: “Social evolution of shared biofilm matrix components”.

The paper studies how diffusible matrix production can be stable under the evolutionary pressure of exploitation in bacterial biofilms. Combining quantitative imaging, ecological modeling, and fluid-dynamics simulation, the Yan Lab reveal stable conditions for diffusible matrix production. The study also provides novel tools for studying public goods sharing in spatially structured microbial communities.

Jung-Shen Benny Tai, a Damon Runyon Postdoctoral Fellow in the Yan lab, leads this work. Check here for the Paper and the feature in YaleNews.
