Geoffrey Thomson, Ph.D.

Associate Research Scientist

I am currently an associate research scientist in the Jacob lab in MCDB with expertise in plant genome engineering, DNA repair and genomics. My research currently centers on consequences of genome instability which occurs at replication forks in the absence of the TONSOKU DNA repair protein. I am also a PI on a collaborative project with the Irish lab generating a mutant population of Citrus trees using CRISPR based gene editing strategies which will be screened for disease susceptibility. I also have experience in the fields of photoperiodic regulation of flowering and Agrobacterium mediated transformation. I was awarded a PhD in plant biology from the University of Auckland, New Zealand in 2019.

Outside of the lab I frequent the coffee shops during the day, and live music venues in the evenings.
